My original message is below. I researched the great
site: http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php but I had no
luck in solving my problem.

Because the system hangs while displaying "Logging Off...
", I assume that the system is having trouble notifying
the network (small home peer-to-peer network) that it is
shutting down.

Any suggestions?

Original Post:
When I shutdown or restart WinXP the system
displays "Logging Off..." and then freezes. The only way
to recover is to perform a hardware reset. This system
hang is also causing problems with new software installs
that require a system reboot to complete the install.
The software never completes installation but
continuously asks for system reboots to complete the
install.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps there are clues in the event log? Type "Event Viewer" into the help
system. click on the link it provides and look at the system log?
