Just got a new computer and have discovered that there is
a spell check button on Outlook express but won't work.
Have been told it is because of Windows XP. Any ideas on
how to get it to work? I'm a beginner so instructions
that are plain & basic would be best. Thanks for any
help that can be given.

Windows has never included spell check. OE will use some third party spell
checkers and the spell checker install with Microsoft Office.

No Windows Operating Systems have spell check as a feature. You have to
have Microsoft Word, Office, or Works installed.

Or, you can use this:

Spell Checker for OE 2.1

It's free and works great.

Launch Outlook Express and go Tools->Options and see if you have a Selling
Tab. If so open it and check the box that will enable spell checking. Shut
down and restart Outlook Express. If that doesn't help then visit Michael
Steven's page here http://michaelstevenstech.com/spellcheck.htm

If there is no Spelling Tab (as above) then from Outlook Express go to
Help->Contents and Index->Index Tab. Type "spelling" into the search and
read about it.

If you do not have one of the listed programs installed then download and
install this freeware app http://www.geocities.com/vampirefo/ Once installed
make sure it enable it as instructed above.
