So, what's the problem? Just install the drivers from ATI. Older drivers do
not have to be uninstalled before you install newer versions.

Hi, or you could do what many people do, because it is advisable to remove
older drivers before installing newer ones to prevent issues, run this
utility http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/misc/catalystutils.html
This should do it...

This is an excellent tool that removes all parts of ATI
drivers/software, but it does not prevent Windows from installing
generic drivers upon reboot. The real answer here was given by Jerry.
Windows needs the driver it installs in order to work properly. You can
just install the latest ATI drivers over the Windows one.

Also, this isn't new in SP2. It has been this way since XP was released.
