View Full Version : Visual C ++ Runtime Library Error after SP2

Hi - I have a problem & hope someone can help!

Installed SP2, all was well with the PC for a few days, then I installed
Panda Platinum Antivirus software. The installation got to 80%, then sort of
locked up. I hit CTRL ALT DEL and shut down the Not Responding error, and
then the installation reached 100%, and prompted me to re-boot, which I did.
That's when the problems started. Now I get a Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime
Library error. Program:C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe. This application has
requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

The system continues to boot up, I get a desktop with all my icons, however
Ive got no network connections, no sound card is recognised.
Ive tried System Restore but it says "System Restore cannot protect your
computer, please restart" But this does not help.
Ive got no net connection, so I can download a patch, if any such patch
could help.
I cannot uninstall SP2 or the Panda software, I get a RPC Error.

Its all a bit of a mystery.
Certain programs still work, my Roxio DVD software, so I have managed to
back up files and programs I want to keep, but I would rather try and fix
the PC rather than reinstall Windows XP again, which I believe will wipe my
hard drive?

Cheers

Scott

Just a thought as this has caught me out before, have you changed any
of your services settings (disabling some, setting some to manual etc)
at all?

If yes, let me know and I'll tell you where to get a patch to set them
to their default states.

Hi Guy, thanks for the response.
I dont recall changing any settings, however at this stage I am
willing to try anything, so if you could let me know re the patches,
that would be great!

Hi Scott,

All the patches are here http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/registry.htm.
They are for all configs, the default services reg file should be
there too. I'd uninstall SP2, apply the reg file, reboot (just to be
safe <g>) and then reapply SP2.

Good luck.
