I have heard and read about a lot of problems regrading SP2 for XP. Should I
wait before installing it? Is Microsoft addressing these problems?

I know enought to get in trouble, and don't want to 'borrow trouble.'

Thanks.

SP2 is here to stay and its not going to change. Folks that are
having some problems with it generally have a poorly maintained
system laden with spyware and corrupt files. Visit the following
excellent web site and follow the suggestions:

Officially, there is no revision of SP2 coming, however
if you use one of the apps on the list of apps that may
behave differently, then you may want to check to see if
an update from the app vendor is available before
applying SP2.

If you install it, follow the directions about backing
up. Things will go wrong for some percentage of people
who install anything. If you don't make backups already,
now is a good time to learn.

Most of the non-user problems are compatibility. Those need to be addressed
by driver and application updates from the respective manufacturers. You
should check your various manufacturer websites for updates and check your
specific PC manufacturer website for any special requirements they may have.
Also, before installing, be sure your data is backed up, make sure your
antivirus is up to date and scan your system and check for any malware,
download, install and run Ad Aware:
www.lavasoftusa.com

Also check out the Service Pack Installation Check List:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spackins.htm

There are no guarantees you will have no problems with any update but proper
prep will make it less likely you will have some of the problems others have
experienced.

I did my machine the other day after prepping per the Carey Frisch link,
and everything went fine.

I too followed this link http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/xpsp2.htm exactly
and also disabled my wireless connection while I did the install (from the
CD) and have had no problem with anything. Everything started right up and
the wireless connected on the first try. It took a little over an hour to
install. I am thrilled because I was dreading it really bad. It also
recognized that I had Zone Alarms firewall and did not even turn on the XP
firewall.
