Changing the size of C drive

Does anyone know how to change the allocation of hard
drive space on a Vaio so that I can make my C drive
bigger.

If you are looking to change the size of a hard drive partition you ahve two
choices. One: Go buy a program like Partition Magic. Two: Format your hard
drive and resize it during the Windows XP Setup.

You cannot change the size of the partitions of a HDD without losing
all the data on the partitions, except for that you get a third-party
tool like the Partition Manager for this purpose.
If data loss is no problem you can re-setup the partitions during the
clean reinstallation of Windows XP.

The best and easiest way to make your drive bigger is to install a
bigger drive.

Hi Richard,

You can use BING: http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/bootitng.html

Download to its own folder, extract from the zip, run the bootitng to make a
boot floppy. Enter Maintenance, then Partition work.

If you have to perform a Slide, remember to replace the space with at least
a 16 or 32 to retain proper boot settings. Once done, Resize. Phase 1 does
take a while, Phase 2 not as bad and Phase 3 is a breeze.

if by "allocation" you mean that your BIOS does not recognize the entire
volume of your physical hard drive
restart your pc and hit the button to enter setup (usually 'del' or f10).
now search to find if there is an unallocated space that is in the hard
drive and is "unused" meaning "hidden" from the user and there for not
"detected" by to o/s.
maybe you were using once windows 95 and the fat partition used for the
windows folder (operating system) was limited to a 2 gb size.
now there should be a "default" selection option somewhere in the hard disk
detection page (depending on your BIOS version and type).
once you managed to allocate the "hidden" volume of your hard disk press f10
to save and exit and insert the boot diskette of your os that contains
fdisk.exe in it.
run fdisk and give the remaining volume a drive letter or letters in the
extended partition. restart after saving and then format the new drive
(letter) to the desired file allocation table.
BTW this can be quickly and easily done with the Partition Magic boot
diskette.

A good approach is to use a tool like FolderSizes
(www.foldersizes.com) to figure out where the "big chunks" of data lie
on your C drive. Then you can make decisions on how/where to archive
or move it.
