microsoft word? I only see Word Pad.

It's not included with XP and never was with any other Microsoft OS.

The Windows XP operating does not include the Microsoft Word
program. You may purchase Microsoft Word at your favorite store
that sells computer software.

Comes bundled with Office, at least it did with my Dell package.
