View Full Version : SP2 uninstall from DOS?

Having just installed SP2 via auto update I find I am unable to boot my
machine in any mode including safe mode. My rescue disk however does allow me
access to my C:drive in DOS mode.
It will take a considerable amount of time to get my machine back as I want
by re-installing everything and was wondering if there was anyway to
uninstall SP2 and recover my machine from within DOS?
Thanks

Hi,
Before you go to all the trouble of uninstalling SP2, it's worth trying to
boot your PC without any peripherals attached - just to check.
I had a similar problem with my laptop and it turned out to be my optical
mouse driver - I booted without the mouse connected and it worked. I the
reconnected my mouse and updated the driver and now it works fine!
Cheers

Torgeir - thanks for the reply, unfortunately I ommitted to mention I only
have the manufacturer's factory image of XP and not an original disk.
Thankfully Vipersman's suggestion of removing my mouse has fixed my problem.
Thanks again.
