XP SP2 - Slow slow slow - HELP

I have upgraded to XP SP2 and prior to doing so followed the guidelines to
the letter.

Now, everything is painfully slow e.g. when going into an Office 2000
function it takes ages to come to the screen whereas before it was all but
immediate.

No shortage of any memory, plenty of CPU capacity, Broadband connection.

A system cleanup and defrag has made no difference

ANY CLUES!
ANY HELP!

Someone suggest de-installing the upgrade XP SP2 and reverting back to the
original XP
Is this a backward step?
Zone Alarm and Norton Antivirus is my normal protection.

Slow can be for all sorts of reasons.
MY PC became slow.
Had 4 X 128 ram.
One was faulty still slow after removing it.
To get it right, I had to change one IDE cable to cdrom.
Now it runs perfectly.
