View Full Version : XP reinstall after SP2

I recently installed SP2 on my PC. Then, last week, I ran into a problem
where I had to reinstall WinXP. When I booted off the XP CD, the WINXP
installer tells me that it cannot install an older version of WinXP over a
newer version - SP2.
Luckily, I was able to remove SP2 through Add/Remove programs. But If this
feature wasn't available, how else can the original WinXP be installed over
SP2?

You would need to do a clean install, I.e., reformat the hard drive. You
obviously selected the option to install over your original copy of windows
xp

Hi Tony

You can perform a 'Repair' install SP2 with a slipstreamed SP2 CD. However,
you will need download the 266 Mb SP2 file first:
