Help,

I screwed up my registry and had to re-install WIN XP.

When it finally came back, I ended up with a couple of
problems.

1) In IE when a secondary window opens, like this Post a
New Message window, it is blank (pop ups are also blank).
This is being written in Netscape, so that browser does not
have the problem, so I am concluding something in IE is
configured wrong.

(It also maybe related to problem 2)

2) Originally, Win XP operated from C:(1), but when I
installed a bigger drive I copied everything to E: (0)
everything seemed to work fine and I think I remembered
setting the E: drive as the main default drive. With the
reinstall the bigger drive is now C: (but still 0) while
the smaller drive is now D: (also still 1) and I think it
is booting from D: (1), but when I start the computer, it
is giving me a choice of which operating system, but they
are both Win XP. How do I get rid of the extra instance of
Win XP (the one that doesn't work)? Can I juat delete the
line from Boot.ini?

Thanks for any help.

Bill

Hi Bill,

1) Reinstall Internet Explorer, start/run, then copy/paste in this line:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\Inf\ie.inf

2) Where are you booting from? Start/run msconfig, go to the boot.ini tab.
Look at the rdisk(*) line to see which drive is being accessed. While there,
click "check all boot paths" and it should prompt to remove the invalid
entry. If it does not, go to the control panel/system/advanced/startup and
recovery settings/"edit" and remove the line that references the old system
from the [operating systems] section.
