Get a friend (with a better connection) to download them:
You can download them from the Catalog and save to be installed later.
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp
How to Download Windows Updates and Drivers from the Windows Update Catalog

Or download them yourself from the Catalog by installing a download manager
that can pick up the download where you left off, then you can install them
later.

Does Microsoft still offer a Service Pack CD?

Does it include the critical updates? If so, where can I get this CD? I'm
planning to buy another computer within the month and, after downloading 23
updates with a 56K modem, I certainly don't want to download all those
updates again.
On a side note, are any of these updates still on my hard drive in
compressed form? If so, is it possible to just copy these to the new
computer and install them?

From the Microsoft website:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/ordercd.asp
or you can call 1-800-360-7561

I don't blame you.

Please keep in mind that the XP license you have is likely for just
one machine. So you are going to have to buy a new copy of XP, which
is likely to have a recent Service Pack on it already.
Of course, any software CD is obsolete as soon as its stamped,
especially with the rash of security patches Microsoft has issued
recently. So, you will still have new patches to download no matter
what, just not quite so much.

I wasn't talking about Windows, just the updates I previously downloaded.
Probably wouldn't work (different updates), so never mind.
