View Full Version : SP2 Troubles

Since installing SP2 on 2 Sep 04 my CD-R has quit working,
my internet access crashed, IE will no longer recognize my
printer and I get error messages regarding .DLL's whenever
I open folders. I have spoken with Erica, Daryl, Sandra,
Debbie, Lisa and some guy from Canada for about 10 hours
over the past four days. The guy from Canada and Debbie
both hung up after referring me to more Microsoft
downloads and phone numbers. Erica helped me delete SP2
(possibly) but nothing is better. I downloaded the driver
for my CD-R as Canada guy said but Windows will not let me
reload it, saying it is not WIN32. Canada guy also told me
to reload SP1, which is no longer available. Sandra told
me to reload SP1a, which will not reload without Windows
Update installed. Windows Update will not install because
BITS 2.0 will not install. Therefore, I called Windows
support and they are closed. Bill Gates owes me a working
computer at his expense and he needs to fire a support
staff that is inept and a development staff that is
malicious. I have very little if anything good to say at
this point. I saved money for over a year for a newer
computer, am in college without a primary tool in the
middle of my senior year and have no capability of
replacing the computer or paying for repairs. I stand to
lose hundreds of hours of data and files. I am in classes
from 9AM to 1PM and work from 1PM until 10 or 11 PM every
night. SP2 is the sickest trick Microsoft could have
played in my life and at the worst possible time.

I am not scared to sign my name

Many people have installed SP2 with no ill effects at all.. we all knew that
SP2 would be a major update.. we all know that when installing anything
major, backups (saves) of important files should be made.. we all know that
when installing anything 'big', it is probably not a good idea to have
peripherals connected, ant-virus and other background running.. if we are
not too sure of something, we search in Google for answers to any queries
that we may have before taking a quantum leap forwards.. we did this,
right?.. since when did anybody owe us for our own incompetence?

If you have an XP cd, try running SFC /scannow from the run box, or do a
repair install.. save important stuff and re-install either from your XP cd
or recovery cd.. it will not cost hundreds of dollars or hundreds of hours
to fix.. have patience and systematically work through fixes..

Also Tony, posting your address and phone number on a public usenet forum,
is not a good idea.
This is not a Microsoft supported tech site, this is peer to peer
newsgroup - while some MS employees may read and post here occasionally,
they do so in their own time and voluntarily.

Why would you start SP2 upgrade during “worst possible time”?

How to successfully install Windows XP Service Pack 2:

Good Luck!

It's also not a good idea or smart for *you* and "Mike H"
to include it in your replys to the OP either lol
