View Full Version : Viewing my JPG's since SP2

Ever since I upgraded to SP2, whenever I view my digital photos (jpg's), it
opens them with Microsoft Photo Editor.

Prior to SP2, when I clicked on a jpg, it opened in a viewer that seemed to
be an internal part of Windows where I could click to the next photo and
view the entire folder, click by click, one picture at a time. No editor.

I can't seem to get back to that.

Even when I right click on a jpg and select "Open with..." there doesn't
seem to be any option to get it back to the way it used to be - which is
what I preferred. Nothing but various editors are available.

Any ideas?

It sounds like previously you used "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" perhaps?
Try right clicking on a .jpg file and selecting "open with" then "Windows
Picture and Fax Viewer". Does that look like the program you used before?.

If so try looking up "To modify an existing file type" in help and support.
It tells you how to change the program that is started when you double click
on a file of a particular type. It sounds like you want to change it so that
..jpg and .jpeg (and others?) are opened with the program "Windows Picture
and Fax Viewer".

I've reproduced what it says here (but the formatting won't be preserved so
it may be hard to read)....

To modify an existing file type
Open Folder Options in Control Panel.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.
On the File Types tab, click the file type you want to change, and then
click Advanced.
If necessary, modify the file type description, and click Change Icon to
change the file type icon.
Under Actions, click the command you want to modify, and then click Edit,
Remove, or Set Default. Click New to add a new command to the Actions list.
Notes
After you specify a new action, the corresponding command appears on the
menu when you right-click a file with the associated extension.
In the New Action dialog box, you can click Browse to find the program you
want to specify for the action.
All files that have the file name extension will use the icon and commands
you specify.

Try right clicking the file, click on Open With and
choose Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
