According to everything i have read SP2 and norton firewall should work
together. However ! having just installed SP2 onto my PC guess what ?? i
have to turn of Norton firewall in order to browse the web. If i turn it on
(with the xp firewall turned off ) i cant view any web pages, explorer
simply states that it cant find the server and chucks up the normal page of
instruction when a site cannot be reached. When i disable norton firewall
and turn on the xp version amazingly everything works fine. Is this just
another example of microsoft playing hardball or has something changed on my
system since downloading SP2 ??

Norton's Personal Firewall and SP2's firewall work well together on my
desktop and laptop. However, an uninstall/reinstall of NPFW might be your
solution. I've had to do this in the past when minor malfunctions have
occurred with Norton's.

Try to update or uninstall and reinstall Norton. More information here:

There is no need to run two firewalls on one computer. Disable one of them.

Hope this helps!

If both were third party firewalls, I'd agree. However, the SP2 firewall
checks outbound traffic only, not inbound, so a two-way firewall is needed.
In this case it's NPFw, which does function with the SP2 firewall.
Paranoia???....maybe! But added security, such as it, is never hurts.
