Weak volume

Sound on new Dell XP working fine, when it suddenly became
and stays very faint. Moving volume controls does't
help. How can I restore normal volume? Thanks. Bill

Update to the latest driver for the card would be a good first step. Make
sure your speaker wires are firmly connected and not frayed or damaged,make
sure the sound card (if not onboard) is properly seated and not loose.
