Hi

Which UNINSTALL files can I delete after installing WinXP
SP2?

I appear to have many large files in folders named
similarly to:

c:\windows\$NTUNINSTALLQ317277$

Is it ok to delete these files as they are taking up a
lot of space

Regards

John

Hi

For folders you can consider deleting and other disk cleanup tips
after a successful SP2 installation, take a look here:

http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=%2368Pw4rlEHA.3712%40TK2MSFTNGP15.phx. gbl

The $NTUNINSTALLQ317277$ part is also described there.

You can check on what each refers to in the related
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;317277

That one in fact relates to a very old (pre SP1) patch and should have
been rolled up in SP2, which should have left only the very large
$NTServicePackUninstall one. If that is around, you should be able to
remove any others. If it is not present make sure your SP2
installation did in fact complete (does Control Panel - System - General
page name it?)

Hi Alex,

Note that SP2 does not delete the uninstall folders for hotfixes,
only their entries in Add/Remove Programs.

They are not removed by the service pack installation case you need
to go back to the previous installation (and then still be able to
uninstall the hotfixes in case you need to).
