View Full Version : Opening Windows Explorer from Desktop Icon

Prior to my formatting my hard drive on XP Pro, When I
opened Windows Explorer, It opened to the hard drive, and
that's the way that I set it and want it to do. But after
the format, the Windows Explorer opens to the default My
Documents. The problem is that I can't remember what I
did (set) to get it to go to the hard drive. Being 67
years old and being forgetful and having those senior
moments more and more often has made me forget,
completely, what I did to get Windows Explorer to open to
the hard drive. Hopefully there is someone out there that
can tell me how to set Windows Explorer to open to the
hard drive.

You could right-click your hard drive icon, drag it to the taskbar or desktop and
create a shortcut.

I didn't have to have another shortcut, Mary. I opened to
the hard drive from the Windows Explorer shortcut. I
know that it can be set to do that, but I forgot where I
went to set it that way.

Create a shortcut for Explorer. Edit the "target" in the shortcut's
Properties sheets to read:
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,c:
That will open Explorer with the focus on the C: drive. Change to
whatever drive letter you want. If you end the target line with /e,
(comma included), the shortcut will open with the focus on My
Computer.
