I have a pc with the strangest problem. For some unknown
reason Windows Explorer will hang and every open window
becomes frozen and the only thing that seems to release
them is opening task manager. I have reinstalled xp and
the problem isn't so obvious at first, but seems to
reoccur.
Also, now the desktop can not be configured to let the
user move icons around on it. They just snap back into
place.
Is there a way to reinstall windows explorer or is this a
different issue that I am not catching?
Thanks for any and all input.
Rita

Hi rita,
My chance to you mean Internet Explorer?
if so you can download it from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&familyid=1e1550cb-5e5d-48f5-b02b-20b602228de6
If I'm mistaken about your problem please post again.
As for the Icons: Right click on the desktop "Select Arrange Icons By"- Make
sure the check mark is removed on Align to Grid.

Hope This Helps

Hi Joe,
Thanks for the reply. No I actually did mean Windows
Explorer.
I have discovered after another reinstall of Windows XP
and then an install of critical updates that it was
actually the critical updates that makes this problem
occur with the desktop icons being unmoveable. No matter
what settings you try the icons can not be moved.
So I did a restore to the point before installing the
critical updates and I'm to the point of now installing
the critical updates one at a time and rebooting after
each to see if I can detect the culprit.
This is just weird!
Thanks,
rita

Hi Rita,
Great troubleshooting on your part.
Let me know that download is the culprit.
