is there a way to unistall SP2? Can this safely be done via the Add/Remove
Programs in Control Panel.

no. you would have format the whole drive, then reinstall

Hi

Yes, you can uninstall SP2 via Add/Remove Programs. What problem(s) have
you got with SP2?

Wrong, it is possible through Add/Remove Programs, as just one method.

SP2 is major overhaul of WINXP, taking it out can be problematic, if there is
no problems with the install and went cleanly, it will lower computer
security quite abit.

Formatting and reinstalling "cleans" the computer of accumulated files and
makes a clean install, uninstalling via add/remove does not always get all
files, folders, registry entries ect out of the system, SP2 is not just a
program, that works with the operating system by drivers and thru the
compliers, SP2 is part of the operating system and its risky business to take
out operating system modules as they can become integrated ect and when they
are not there anymore and a subroutine keeps calling on them, this can cause
problems, "if it isnt broken it does not need to be fixed" I treat operating
system parts with higher care then software programs, good luck.

FALSE.
Where did you get this BAD information?
SP-2 can be uninstalled through Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

Do you normally reply to yourself three times in the same thread?

SP2 can definitely be uninstalled using Control Panel/ add-Remove programs,
although you do have to click the "show updates" box.

And, uninstalling SP2 and reinstalling SP2 appears to have no ill effects on
machines.

For us, we use a product that writes COM objects and SP2 when installed by
SUS breaks this product, while installing SP2 from Windows updates allows
thie product to work perfectly.

We had to manually uninstall SP2 on several machines.

Absolute nonsense. Where do you come up with this garbage?

There are several ways to uninstall SP2. See this link:

That's correct. Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Be sure
you've placed a
checkmark in the "Show Updates" option at the top.

But does an uninstall return one's system to the exact state - settings,
configurations, layouts, preferences, etc. - as it was prior to sp2?

You can bet the farm the answer to that is NO!

Example - If sp2 scrambles a home wireless network's settings will an
uninstall repair the network settings? NO One has to go back and redo
them all manually and/or using wizards AGAIN!

I know this first hand from a minutes old job. I just, minutes ago,
returned from my neighbor's home where I helped him get his network back up
after he had spent a whole day (missing work - no less) working back and
forth with me to get his system back after a sp2 install.

People if your going snip. Please snip the post properly.
The above looks I wrote it.

I have sp2 installed. Had to turn off dep in the boot.ini file. So
Avg 7 beta would work with xp sp2.

I don’t plan to uninstall it. Unless, I run into a lot of problems.
I know how to uninstall it

Thank You,

Hi

There is no need to click "Show Updates", that was only needed for
the earlier versions of the beta version of SP2 as far as I know.

If the uninstall item is there, it works quite effectively. Certainly
try it before taking advice to format the drive; but do back up
essential data just in case
