Prior to installing SP2 I had no problem in downloading
large files from the internet. I downloaded SP 1 without
a problem and several files that were 30 to 40 megs.

Since SP 2 I am having a problem with downloads. I tried
to download an update from the Microsoft Update Site that
was 23.1 megs. It would download only 6 megs (exactly)
and then time out and loose the internet connection. I
went back to Windows Update and found that it had
retained the 6.0 megs and did the same thing. After
another 6.0 megs it timed out again. It took me 4
downloads to get the entire download.

I know SP 2 made a lot of improvements (adjustments) to
Win XP. Is there anything I could check to see if
possibly a switch has been changed with regards to
downloading or timeouts.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

danny,

i don't think sp2 has something to do with how your downloads have slowed
down. i might be wrong, but then, i didn't have any problems with my
downloads after sp2.

further, it even improved on a bit as there is already auto resume.
meaning, if my download gets disconnected, or i disconnect it myself, or my
internet access gets disconnected, i can resume downloading from where i
left.

i hope this helps a bit.

No,, winxp sp2 has 10 ports open, before there were 50 ports open sp1, there
is a fix, however its not MS so I dont reccommend using it, try and use a
good download accellerator without adware or spyware.
