View Full Version : Accessing WinXP shares from Win2K

Configuration:
Mix of WinXPPro and Win2KPro workstations, no DNA, workgroup setup, accounts
fully synchronized; 1 scanner, 2 printers, both shared and served by a
Win2K w/s.
Goal:
To see all shares on all systems by all systems.
Problem:
I can see all (XP and 2K) shares from XP machines, but I can see only 2K
shares, but not XP ones from 2K systems. What do I need to do (on XP side,
or 2K, or both) to make XP shares visible to 2K systems (applies equally to
admin and regular shares)?
TIA; regards,
Dudo

Make sure all computers are in the same workgroup and that all useraccounts
exist on all computers (W2K/XP's). Got File- and printersharing loaded? Is
Netbios over TCP/IP enabled (Advanced properties of TCP/IP, tab WINS)?

Name Resolution, what method of Name Resolution do you use for YOUR network,
WINS, DNS or HOSTS ?
Look into WINS, DNS & HOSTS for more info on Name Resolution. And remember
Win2k & XP want the Windows DNS server for YOUR network not an Internet one.

Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on local area
network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem connection to the
Internet. Disable and un-install all other firewalls while troubleshooting.
