SP2 stopping cable modem connection

I have tried to install the sp2 update but found that I could not get a
connection through my cable modem. I have a motorola modem. I deleted the
update and everything is running normally. Is there any solution to this
problem? I am doing more research on the net but have not found any
solutions yet. Thanks for your help.

I have managed to install Service Pack 2 through my motorola modem and I as
administrator can log on to the internet and use outlook express to collect
recieve e-mail but other users on my laptop can not. They are told that the
server could not be reached even though there is an active connection.
