Confused about XP SP2 "deadline"

Ok. What's this "able to block".

Is at some point it NOT possible to prevent auto updating the XP
machines with SP2? I'm concerned with this "able" or "not able" to
block.
I upgrade the machines when and if I please to. Preferrably not on
monday for instance. I can not have Microsoft force a mega-download
and run their upgrade behind the scenes without getting my permission.

Could someone shed some light on this?

This belongs to some software Microsoft provides to block installing
the SP on specific computers (=those on which this software is
installed). This does not affect the general availability of the SP2.

This is mostly for IT shops in large corps that have many PC with
auto update turned on. It allows updates to take place but blocks SP2
until it can be throughly tested in their environment.

"The blocking mechanism will now prevent Automatic Updates"

This is the opposite what I read in eweek, where it said that by april
2005 it wasn't possible to block the update. I tried to find it again
on eweek, but it's as if they pulled the article.
Perhaps the writer screwed up.

there was a patch to stop downloading sp2 into corporate
systems, in order to stop the crash of many companys
computers and the downfall of the economy. and the patch
must have an expiry date.

You can get CD direct from Microsoft. Mine arrived in 7 days
