Hi,

I have installed two new XP machines, and I'm wondering if XP has an ERD
(Emergency Recovery Disk) routine as did W2K?

I would like to back up the registry and settings on these machines now as
they are, so I can recover from any future problem more easily.

Thanks for your comments

There is no ERD disk to be made in Windows XP. the Windows XP disk includes
the Recovery Console and repair tools.

As Chris mentioned the XP CD is bootable and gives you access to the
Recovery Console

But you might also want to look here

In addition to the other postings:

If you are unlucky enough to have got a machine
that comes with no Windows XP discs at all
(like my brand-new Sony Vaio PCG-GRT150),
then your default emergency recovery options
are pretty much limited to restoring your disk
to the state it was in when you initially
purchased it. Ugh.

You might want to look into ASR. (Automated System Recovery). It will
backup not only the registry, but the all the data on the system volume and
your entire disk configuration. There is also a wizard that will execute
the ASR behind the scenes and backup every piece of data on the system. The
restore process is as easy as booting off the CD and pressing the F2 when
prompted. Both these backups are executed from ntbackup.exe. Tape and disk
backup sets can be made. CD and DVDs are not supported here. DVD ram is
supported

And ASR doesn't work with XP Home version.
