I have attempted to download and install this patch.
From all appearances I do this successfully. The file
size is 112kb and windows tells me the update was
installed successfully.

However, the next time I restart my computer, I still
have the same critical update message telling me I need
to install this patch.

Can anyone help me out here and explain what is going on
or what I need to do to fix it?

Thanks in advance.
Steve

SP1 is megabytes in size, you have just downloaded the
install routine and have not completed the SP1 upgrade.

I also have this problem. I then, however, downloaded
the full service pack (expanded to 162 MB), and ran the
update/update.exe file. Nothing happened, and I still
get the message that the service pack has not been
installed.

Hi,

Have a look at this article - I am presuming you are talking about the
Windows Update - you need to download and install the SP1RcvryFix.exe
from this link and follow the instructions - the Windows Update message will
not disappear until after you have done a system recovery
