You can install Windows XP on a Macintosh, but not as the primary OS and not
without another (third party) application running to install it in.
For example, if you are running OS 9.X or 10.X, you could install Connectix
Virtual PC for that OS and install the Windows XP OS in a "virtual PC" on
your Macintosh. Go to the link below for more information and pricing and
such.

There is software which enables this: Virtual PC
(http://www.connectix.com/products/vpc6m.html). In fact, you can buy
Virtual PC with XP included as part of the purchase. BUT, you need one of
the very fast Macs for things to work well.

I dont know if this is true but i have heard of a few people talking about
an edition of windows which would work out to be windows 97' which was
designed for mac computers.
Could someone correct me if I am wrong.

Gladly, this information is incorrect. There is no version of
Microsoft Windows that will run natively on a Macintosh computer. As
others have pointed out in this thread, there are solutions available
where by you could create a virtual Intel machine in your Mac OS that
could then be loaded with Windows.

No, there's no such product. You're perhaps thinking of Microsoft
Office 98, which is for the Macintosh.

Think of the Tech Support at Microsoft or Apple when they get the call and
are told that xp pro will not install on my MAC.

But you can run XP on a Macintosh. It's available in a package called
VirtualPC, which combines a Pentium/PC emulator and a copy of Windows XP.
Macintosh users have been running DOS and Windows on their systems for about
10 years.
You can learn about it at www.connectix.com Microsoft recently bought this
company.

To be correct, Microsoft did not buy Connectix. The bought the Virtual
PC technology from Connectix.

Are you sure you install xp on the mac thru Virtual PC or just run your
windows program thru virtual pc mac interface.? Actually at 129 dollars it
is not a bad price. Nothing is mentioned about the speed which has not been
to great in prior versions. More used for necessity than for fun. But what
the heck either way it is a solution. I think the original question was
could you just installs xp on a Mac.
