All,
After installing sp2 I have this issue where if I try to
launch an .MDB (Access database) file off an SBS 2003
network share through explorer, that is open by multiple
users, it will not launch Microsoft Access. Nothing
happens. But if no one else has the .MDB file open then
Access launches without issue.
things noted
*it is an Microsoft Access 97 MDB file which also uses an
associated .LDB file for multiuser locking purposes
* The .LDB file is created by the first person who opens
the .MDB file and deleted once the last person exits
the .MDB file
* Other users use the same .LDB file
* does not happen with other files
* copy file to local drive it will launch app fine even
if it is opened
several times
* occurs on 2 different machines (Professional and home
versions)
* professional is on domain
* windows firewall is off
* open with, Double click etc does not work
* If Microsoft Access 97 is opened first and then
the .MDB file selected, it opens the database without
issue
I assume it is something to do with security, networks,
file locking and the fact that a second file (.LDB) is
involved.
Does anyone have a clue???
Thanks

You may want to try asking this in one of the Access groups, as well - and I
think you're on the right track with the locking file, but I know Access
about as well as I know structural mechanics. You might want to try
microsoft.public.access.multiuser or microsoft.public.access.security.

I just read somewhere within the past 2 days that SP2 and Access were
having some problems. Hopefully, the Microsoft Access Knowledgebase
may contain something, or an Access-specific newsgroup.
