I have done that, but when I go into standby and then
bring it out of standby, the icons have been rearranged.

Very strange. I know changing screen resolutions will often mess up
your desktop, but I've never seen it happen with standby.

In any case, there are some freeware programs out there that might
help you. Icon Restore and IconSaver save and restore your icon
locations. They are available from zdnet downloads, and probably
other sites.

I understand these are not what you are asking for, which is to keep
your desktop icons from moving around in the first place. I use a
program on my WIN98 machines called IconLock that does exactly that,
but I suspect its not compatible with XP.

To my knowledge, saving/restoring/locking desktop icons and their
positions are not part of XP, but it could be and should be, IMHO.
