View Full Version : OE6 problem reading the NGs

I have a new HP with W-XP and use OE-6 for getting basic Usenet's Newsgroups
(through my ISP). The problem is as we read the messages, especially those
over 4 kb they will not stay in place as we scroll down. They JUMP back to
the top of the message, making us lose our place - which we have to scroll
down to find - just to have the message JUMP back to the top of the post.
It's very irritating and time-wasting to have to keep scrolling down to find
our place again. We've been online now since 1996 and have never had this
happen on our older computers (with W95 and W98SE). Is there any way to
stop this irritating behavior of returning to the top of posts over and over
as we're trying to read them? This sometimes also happens on webpages
(IE6). The screen suddenly is back at the TOP of the webpage making us lose
our place on the page.

Thanks.....

I would strongly recommend that you use a diffrent program for accessing
usenet. OE is ok for email but as far as newsgroups go I suggest you go to
http://xnews.newsguy.com/ and download xnews.

As you're obviously not a newbie, (ie using Xnews) perhaps you would be good
enough to quote the post you are replying to?

Thank you.

Thank you but I would rather stick with OE since I'm familiar with the
program and this is a "NEW" PC. We shouldn't be having these kinds of
problems already. We've been using OE for Usenet's NGs (on W95, then W98SE)
for years and never had a problem. As for xnews, I don't see where it has a
spellchecker which I need.

FS, I don't know whether it was you who originally posted about OE and
newsgroups but I use OE for all of my newsgroups. However, my ISP, (comcast)
news did not have some of the groups I originally signed up for. I am into
Photoshop, graphics and digital newsgroups. My ISP only has one of these. I
use this one group for all of my other groups (news.cis.dfn.de), if you
would like to try it. You can still use OE as your default Email and still
have newsgroups. Just set it up by going to Tools>Accounts>News>Add and
follow the wizard. Your POP and SMTP will be the same as your ISP. I hope
this helps you.

Personal preference I guess.

I prefer Outlook Express for newsgroups, and Outlook for emails.

The best one can do is try what is out there, and decide for themself what
is best for them...
