After installing SP2, on my XP-Home Desktop, I had IE 6.x
running and tried to access 'Internet Options', only to
receive the message:

This operation has been canceled due to restrictions on
your computer. Please contact your systems
administrator."

I tried to fix this by hitting the restore IE
defaults ... it made it worse in that MSN.COM is now lock
in as my home page and I still can't access 'Internet
Options' to change my home page, delete temporary files,
cookies, etc., etc.

Grateful if anyone can help this retiree/home user.

Thanks!

LJM

Hi,

Have you scanned for spyware/malware/adware/parasites? I
have read posts before about loosing control of IE due to
one of those types of programs.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks! Yes, before installing SP2 I ran my AV, SpyBot
and Ad-Aware. Later today, I plan on running all three
again. Will post the results.

OK, several scannings later, LavaSofts: Ad-Aware caught
the "hijacker" and restored my ability(s) to
access "Internet Options" from within IE6 and also to
change my home page! Thanks again, Jeff!

Hi,

Glad it worked, that seems to be a common problem lately,
especially to those installing SP2
