DVD Playback/XP/Media Player/Second monitor playback issues

I have an IBM Thinkpad A31 running Windows XP.
While playing a DVD, I am unable to display the DVD on
the laptop and through the projector at the same time.

I've tried the toggling, updates, utilizing Media Player,
DVDmatics, WinDVD, and RealOne ... no success.

I can only display the projected (second monitor) image,
and this much only after toggling to just that display.
And then, I'm unable to toggle at all until I stop the
DVD and close out of Media Player.

Any ideas? I'm at the end of my rope.
