I have a desktop running Windows ME, a router, cable
modem, and a laptop running Windows XP.
Problem: Can not connect Windows XP to Windows ME.
I have no problems with ME (desktop) connecting to the
laptop, because (by proof) I can view the contents in the
XP (shared folder). I have a "side by" printer connected
to Windows ME (by the way) which I like to use. I checked
the protocols, DHCP, DNS, IP Address - all looks pretty
good. I can connect to the outside world on both of these
machines with no problem. I don't know why I have problems
with the laptop (running XP) in connecting to the Windows
ME computer. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,

Did you run the XP Network Setup Wizard on both machines? If yes, did you
make sure to turn off all firewalls including the XP firewall during setup?
During the wizard, you are asked how this machine connects to the Internet,
an incorrect response will prevent the machines from communicating with each
other. Many people select the "Hub" option, however, if you are connected
to a hub, switch or router, you should select the "Gateway" option.

I had the same problem connecting to ME and 98 machines on my network.
Someone finally advised me to install NETBEAU (sp?) protocol. Once I did, I
was able to see the ME and 98 machines. Also, I had to configure Zone Alarm
so they could see my XP machine.
