View Full Version : Retarded system with SP2

Running XP Pro and was fully current with updates prior to
installing SP2 from the CD.
All seemed to be well following the installation but then
started experiencing longer and longer delays in actions
even with fresh restarts.
I turned off MS Firewall and Automatic Updates so the new
secuity changes in SP2 should have had no affect on the
system.
Removed SP2 through the Control Panel and all is well
again.
Anyone have advice to offer?

After updating to SP2 floppy drives quit working. Any
ideas?

My question is, why would you place a major update on a system that is =
retarded?

better to do with you time? Some people come here for
help, but not your kind.

You can go to ADD/Remove programs and remove SP2. It
will warn you about all the programs that might not
work. I took it off and it helped my computer to work
faster, but I do have some problems like Windows Update
will not work automatically anymore. I have to get them
manually from the download site. Lyle

Hard to give you anything specific since you your post is vague ---
"longer and longer delays in actions" doesn't say much. However know
that the prefetch data is no longer valid after sp2 so that that has to
be rebuilt. You need to defrag after SP2, then it takes at least 3
reboots for the boot prefetch to start. The built in optimization
routine runs every 3 days and it will take several days for the prefetch
folder to be rebuilt. The advice is to defrag, run it for several days
with multiple reboots and defrag again. AFter that if there are still
problems repost with specifics. Sometimes clean boot troubleshooting helps.

What does your post have to do with the one you responded to? Don't
hijack someone else's thread.
