Help with Gateway Performance 600

My father in law has a gateway performance 600 PC 600mhz,
192 meg RAM, 16MB video card.

We have loaded XP onto this system. The program will
start but as soon as it is about to launch the desktop my
screen goes black. I know XP is running because I can
shut it down using keyboard commands. Can anyone help?

Your video card drivers may not be Windows XP compatible. Check with Gateway
or your video card manufacturer for new video drivers that are WindowsXP
compatible.
