why do you wish to reformat?
To do it, insert the XP disk into CD tray and re-boot. Follow instructions.

I followed this link and performed "format c:". But it
really didn't format c:. I can still see all the files
there after reboot. Any other way to format c:?

Get a Win98 boot disk (make on a Win98 machine, or go to www.bootdisk.com).
Put the disk in your floppy drive and reboot.
Choose either "start with CD-ROM support" or "without".
At the a: prompt, type - format c:
That will do it.
Save all your data and files before doing this.
Make sure you have a Windows install disk and serial before doing this.
Make sure you have all your required drivers before doing this.
Good luck!

You booted with your XP CD and selected the option to repair using the
Recovery Console. Once you accessed the Recovery Console you typed FORMAT C:
/FS:NTFS and pressed Enter. When finished you typed EXIT and rebooted your
computer and found that C was not formatted?

If the partition is formatted as NTFS you can't format this way because DOS
can not read the NTFS format

That's very true.
In which case, you'll have to FDISK and recreate the partitions.
(if I remember correctly)

That is correct. It took only five seconds for the "Format
C: /FS:NTFS" and coming back to "C>". I was wondering why
that quick. But there was no additional message came out.

Sorry, I'd take back what I said "That is correct." The
only difference is that I booted with C: drive.
Now I try to boot with CD-ROM/XP OS. The "format C:"
works. Great!
Thanks for help.
