Our main PC which all the family use has a number of programs that startup
on bootup, what I want to beable to do is stop these programs opening up
more than once if more than one person logs on.
The programs in question are a processor cooling program and a firewall prog

not sure if it's still free but it works great for start up programs and
registry cleaning.

go to start run type msconfig
the startup tab will show you all the things that are starting up.
make sure you read carefully what the program actually is and if you do not
feel comfortable then create a restore point before doing this so you can
roll it back pretty easily!

Hi, John!
Use the freeware "Startup Control Panel" from
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
It is the perfect solution for your kind of problem.
You will have complete control of programs that are started at Windows
startup.

In most cases, with "well-mannered" applications, it's usually as
simple as opening the undesired program and deselecting the option to
"display icon in the system tray" or to "start when Windows starts."
Additionally, Look in the C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up and C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up folders, and in the
system registry, primarily in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.
