View Full Version : Can't install XP new computer

Stan
December 11th 03, 07:30 AM
Built new computer using ECS 648 FX-A motherboard, P4 2.4
FSB800, Radeon 7500 video board, and 2 512 mb PC 2100
memory module.
Cannot load an O.S. Windows XP Pro stops with error
message "Problem detected, Windows is being shutdown.
RQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. STOP: 0x0000000A, (0x000A0004,
0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x807C997D0.
On another attempt to load XP, got error message"An attempt
was made to write to read only memory". Setupdd.sys
Address F84F84FA base at F84A1000, Date Stamp 3b7d8507".
On another attempt, got error message
"PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. Stop:
00x00000050(0xFFFFFFE4, 0x00000000,0x808D5483, 0x00000000.
Tried to load Windows 98, got message"SU995003 setup cannot
load a required library 0x138b.
Can you give me any clue as to whether this is a problem
with motherboard, CPU, display board, or with the Windows
cd itself.
Thanks, Stanley Poteet

Greetings --

It sounds like incompatible or defective RAM to me.

Wow, and you posted this on a basics board?

This is not some simple problem, especially considering you also received an
error message when trying to install Windows 98. You need to pull
everything connected that isn't necessary for the system to boot. If you
are then able to run setup, you have some trial and error in front of you to
source the issue.

This could be anything, you might have a problem on the motherboard, you
might have errant bios setting, it could be bad ram. If you have another
system, at least you might be able to do some hardware swapping to rule out
various items.

One other thing, if you are overclocking, set everything back to their
default settings.

Sorry I posted this on basics board, but I looked and
looked and could not find a message board for installation
or advanced issues. Thanks for the reply, I will try
swapping some parts.

You are posting through the Web Based Reader. Did you find your way here
through Expert Zone
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/default.asp If so
check and you will see a group specific to Setup and Deployment.

I would try swapping out the RAM first.

Your errors point to bad RAM, however an ECS
mainboard is a bottom of the line component.

The first error you got I got while experimenting with a
dual boot system when they were both visible to each other.

Greetings --

Curious. I've never seen such errors on any of my dual or triple
boot systems (yes, the various OSs could "see" one another - well
except for Win98, which lacks the ability to read multiple file
systems), but only as the result of defective hardware. Which
operating systems were you using? Are you sure that the error didn't
result from using hardware that was Win9x-compatible, but of too poor
a quality to support WinNT/2K/XP? Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for
future occurrences.

Setup_deployment might have been an appropriate choice but looking at the
thread, you have most answers they likely would have given on that board by
now.
