what happened to my internet after SP2?????

Full description of the issue:
Desktop PC running winxp sp1 - no problem accessing the internet or network.
Laptop running winxp sp1 - no problem accessing the internet or network.
Then.....as Microsoft suggested...
Desktop PC updated to sp2 - no internet, no network.
Laptop updated to sp2 - no internet, no network.

what I want to achieve:
I wnat to have SP2 and my internet and network just like in SP1.
Is that too much to ask???

SP2, by default, turns on the Microsoft firewall. Did you turn it off so the
computers can see each other?
