I have a OEM version of WIN XP SP1a installed on a HP
NX9110 laptop.

I have used a microsoft distributed CD with XP SP2 to
install the SP, at the point that it checks the product
key the install aborts.

The copy of XP is legal, the certificate is attached as a
label to to laptop.

How do I get XP SP2 to install?

Thanks

Terry

You receive a "Windows XP Setup is incompatible with this version of Windows" error
message when you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 on a Hewlett-Packard computer

At the point that it checks the product key, SP2 fails to
install. The message reads something like "The
Installation Failed", no mention of compatibility.

I have checked the machine for spyware, virus and checked
the hard drive for errors.

Should I still try the 870898 knowledge base entry, even
though i don't get the compatibility message?
