View Full Version : XP SP2

I recently installed Windows XP SP2 from a CD I received
from Microsoft. Once it was installed, my computer began
freezing up when I would go through different folders
using Windows Explorer.
It also began taking a very long time to boot up.
After a few days, nothing would load up.
I could find no fix for these issues on Microsoft's
Support site, so I uninstalled SP2.
Since I have uninstalled it, everything on my system is
working correctly.
Is there something I should reconfigure on my system in
order for my system to function properly with SP2
installed?
Thanks for any help at all!

Check the free space on your hard drive. Defrag your hard drive, after you
clean it up, of unneeded temp files, etc.

Go to your computer manufacturere site, and download all
updates for the box, then if you added any hardware or
software,go there and get the updates also. Then load SP2
(at your own risk)your lucky to remove it,It trashed my
system when I tried to remove it.

Thanks for all the replies.
I have already read "What to Know Before You Download and
Install Windows XP Service Pack 2"
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx
I made sure I read it before I even requested the CD. I
read it again after I began having problems. I didn't
read anything on there related to my issues.
I updated everything on my system before I installed SP2.
I don't have any new hardware to configure.
I got rid of unneeded files before I installd SP2.
I defragged after I installed it.
I disabled my anti-virus and firewall before I began the
installation.
SP2 is the only thing I have installed in the past month.
I have plenty of disc space: 61.5 GB.
I am at a loss as to what I should try next since I have
already done the things that have been suggested.
Thanks,
Val
