Fast user switching

Can someone refresh my memory. I had a XP Home machine and
remeber one day I could not use fast usedr switching. The
question is why?
I know XP Home can not join a domain, so its not that,
what else causes this? Is it when you turn on offline
files? i no longer have the home edition to check.
