View Full Version : Machine will not restart following XP Pro upgrade to SP2

Hi,
I have tried upgrading my machine to SP2. The process appears to complete
fine, the subsequent reboot however fails at the Windows splash screen. I
then recover the system by using last known good configuration (or system
restore, I can't actually remember exactly). It's worth noting that this
occurs on both of my computers, both running XP Pro. The version of XP Pro
(Sp1) is one that I have been given from work (and is a legitimate use of the
license, fully registered!!) which has been running fine. One machine is a
fresh install of XP Pro, the other is an upgrade of the XP home delivered by
Mesh.

Any ideas as to why this is failing? I've seen comments regarding "OEM", but
dont' know what these means in this case.
Thanks.

Thanks Tecan. Good stuff, but none of it relevant. I'm looking for something
along the lines of "Machine hangs at XP splash screen following sp2 upgrade".
I'm currently thinking this is due to the precise type of XP Pro license we
have in use in this situation. Any thoughts?
