I have lost the information bar at the top of the Excel
worksheet.(The line that records the entry as you type
it) How do it get it back?

Best to discuss this on the newsgroups specific to Excel. Excel not
part of Windows XP.

That being said, it is probably the formula bar you are missing.
Re-check it for display on the View menu.

View>Formula Bar. Click on latter to checkmark it if it isn't.
