View Full Version : SP2 killed my computer

Ever since I loaded this thing, my computer reboots at
will. It is like a HUGE virus! Sometimes every 2
minutes but I never get more than 15 minutes use before
the reboot. It will then cycle anywhere from 5 to 25
times before it finally reboots. I have a pentium iii
processor and the techs have already had me remove all my
cd software. I do not have the mpeg file that they ask
me to remove. Still the problem continues. I cannot
call the customer support people since I cannot
understand the techs. I'm hard of hearing and the accent
is too thick. When I try to use the chat, I get banged
out. I am now at a work where I can get a computer that
works. Oh yeah, when I try to use their webhelp and look
at my question using my email address, it states I have
no question or ticket open. Short of formatting the
drive and getting another operating system can anyone
offer any help.
Thanks,
George

Are there any error messages that pop up? Does your computer actually
reboot, or does it shutdown (turn off). Did you check the option during the
SP2 install to backup old files? Do you see an option in Add/Remove Programs
to uninstall SP2? Need some more info... :)

Try an uninstall. It's VERY dirty and may will not get your system back to
anywhere close to where it was pre sp2 install - but you may be able to use
it at least.

First, Thanks,
Now, since I'm not at home because I cannot answer
everything.
1. There are no error messages, just goes black and then
reboots.
2. It reboots, It cycles over and over and over and
finally will restart with XP.
3. Whatever the default was is what I have. So it the
default was to backup, then they are backed up.
4. The last item I do not know and will check but I do
not believe I have an unistall option. Even if it was
there, I have already heard horror stories from others
here at work when they tried that option. Perhaps
exaggerated but nonetheless there.
