View Full Version : SP2 Security Center Error

When my computer starts up I get an error message from the new Windows
Security Center no matter what I do. It tells me my virus software is not
working, although it is (Norton antivirus, one of the most common virus
software programs). I click on the Security Center and it gives me the
option of shutting off the virus check and telling the system I will check it
myself. But if I
check that box, the entire Windows Security Center shuts down. To get it
started
again I have to uncheck that I will check my virus software myself. Norton
antivirus has a message saying "Norton Antivirus Auto-protect enabled," the
desired setting according to Norton AV, so it is working okay. Anybody know
how to get the Windows Security Center to work without giving this error
every time your computer is booted up? I would really, really appreciate
this, it is getting aggriavating. --Jack

Symantec is planning an update, which will be available by LiveUpdate. This
will resolve the problem. Currently, Norton Antivirus does not allow Windows
Security Center to see if it is running. That is why you get the error. It
will be resolved by a Norton Antivirus update coming soon.

It depends on what version. 2004 and later are compatible. Earlier
one's don't talk to the security center.

All you need is the WMI patch that is used in NAV2004. Go here to grab it.
http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?action=crf&category=software&cid=267049&id=23322
Click on the "Norton WMI Update" link under View:
The direct link is
http://www.neowin.net/staff/RadishTM/Norton_WMI_Update.rar
You'll need winrar or some other program to unrar the files. After unrar the
files double click the Symwmi04.msi file to start the install.
The WMI patch works for NAV2003 and NAV2002. After you install the patch,
the Security Center will notice your anti virus application.

Hi
Note that Symantec have temporary stopped this WMI update due to
"maintenance" work (I would think that indicates that this update
have some issues in some cases ;-)
