no sound in messenger

[stewie]

problem: my buddies cannot hear me when i connect to audio in msn
messenger..i can hear them though, i've selected the microphone, turned the
volume up, don't know what else to do.any ideas? running xp, mess. 6.2.

How are you connected? Dial up, Cable, DSL? Do you have a router or such?
What microphone do you have selected, the one plugged into the sound card or
the one built into the camera?

cable, no router, running soundMAX digital audio,, i don't have an external
mic, (not really sure how to answer the mic question) i'm presuming my
computer has a mic imbedded in the motherboard..no??

You are telling someone to run without a firewall? I must have missed the
beginning of the thread where the guy must have said he runs a 3rd party

I must have missed the fact he is running ANY FIREWALL, if so, then he will
need to set the firewall to ALLOW the Messenger system to work. As for the
XP firewall this has to be disabled, or if using SP2 then set to allow, or
set to UPNP for it to work, but the UPNP is for a Router, not just a normal
system.

A sound tool will register your audio if you have a microphone (mic).
No meter is going to monitor a nox-existent device on your computer.
That is why you need to buy a microphone; in order to have a tool
that will collect sound waves, which will include your voice, which
incidentally causes a sound volume icon to fluctuate when testing audio.

it was the microphone was not selected as the input source
just tic the box source
and bingo sound in messenger.

to all ? of no sound/microphone in messenger
it will save other people the hours i have spent on the problem

I have probs making PC TO PC Calls. I get this message " Your computer does
not have a sound card, or a sound card is not selected." Yet control panel...
reveals soudn card is okay. Pls instruct what else to check for.
