Getting loud screeching noises on Dell Dimension 8100 PC periodically upon
start-up, cruising web sties, and or reading e-mail - also so loud and
annoying you can't hear music and/or you have to mute the volume to do
anything. Not a problem until SP-2 Installed. Ideas???? Help!!!

Thanks

Hi,

Did you follow all the instructions that Microsoft
provided before you installed SP2?

Did you scanned your PC for spywares, etc.? If not,
this could cause some problems.

I recommend that you uninstall SP2. Scan your PC with a
good ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM. Install SP2 again (after making
sure that you are spyware free). Do a full maintenance
on your PC (i.e. Disk Clean-Up, Defragment, Delete
Cookies, Delete Temp. Internet Files, etc). Then
install SP2, you should not have any problems.

If you need further help, you may see my website at:

P.S. SP2 is a great Service Pack. I installed it on my
PC when it came out, about 1 month ago, and have not had
any problems. But, you need to have your PC in Top
Performance with some of the things I mentioned above.

Do sound files play normally? If so it's probably a corrupt sound
file(s) associated with some system events. Look in the sounds control
panel applet and play each one until you find the screecher(s). If not
re-install your sound card drivers from the manufaturer, not from Microsoft.
