I keep getting a message that says "OE removed access to
the attachment" which is causing me to miss out on class
work I am doing via an online university. Anyone know
what the deal is?

Go to Tools, Options, Security. You'll find this option there.

Greetings --

Outlook Express' default security settings are simply trying to
protect you. OE has no way of telling whether an attachment actually
contains a virus or not, so it temporarily blocks any of those file
types that could potentially contain a virus. In Outlook Express,
Tools > Options > Security, uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to
be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" option, assuming
you trust the source, of course. The wiser course of action, however,
would be to modify your list of unsafe files, as outlined in the KB
articles below:

No competent online university should be irresponsible enough to send attachments that
would be filtered out by reasonable email security. This includes .exe, .doc, .xls, and
other executable file formats. The problem is that most people who are in universities (in
general, not just online) are remarkably stupid about security.

OE 6 by defaults blocks attachments. You can turn this
on/off in tools/option/security tab, 4th box.

Be aware that universities have a real virus problem because
email addresses are so freely circulated and often their
servers are not kept up-to-date by a professional staff
(students work cheap).
