single stepping the bootup process

how do i single step the boot up process in winxp so i can
see what is going on at each step.

thank you for the reply, i was hoping that one of the
function keys would cause single stepping even before
windows started. This is my first use of this method of
getting info and i'm sure i don't know the etiquet, so
